Little Swimmers

Since we've been staying in Wewoka at the lake, we decided to put Reid in swimming lessons last week at the big pool in Wewoka. We thought it would be good for Reid to be around some kids his age and learn about following the rules and listening to a teacher. Also, Jett was in the class so we knew he'd have a good time! The class was small with only six little boys and two instructors leading the class. I used to swim at this pool in the summers when I was little so it was neat to see Reid getting to swim here too! The Wewoka big pool is a laid-back environment with an old vintage feel that reminds me of my childhood. We have a lot of family that live here so lots of people showed up every day to watch the boys swim.

I had to work the first morning, but Jeb came with my mom and got in the pool with Reid. I was told that they did really well at first, but then Jett fell and hurt his knee so they were both done...that is until they found a frog in the pool - then they were suddenly interested in swimming again!

He did so good for being the youngest in the class - he would jump right in...no fear!

With Aunt Lacee - He would swim really well until he went all the way under and then he would just stop moving!

I got in the pool the next day. Reid was so eager to jump in that I would have to be sure I was holding on to him at all times. If he was on the side he would sometimes jump in when no one was looking! He would also have a little bit of a hard time waiting on for his turn to jump in and swim with the instructors. When he was ready, he would cut in line and jump right in! He liked the jumping part far more than the swimming part!

At one point, Reid pushed Jett into the pool and Jett started crying - then Jett would aggravate Reid and he would start crying...just like brothers!

The next day they both wouldn't wear the noodle floaties at the beginning of the lesson, so we had to get their lifejackets.

The best part about swimming lessons - THE SNACKS!!!

The boys' Great-Grandma Lucy brought chips and skittles one day and after they were finished jumping off the diving board Reid said, "Mimi brought us a surprise?"

I'm SO glad we put Reid in swimming lessons this year - not only for the swimming, but for the socialization as well. Everyone had a great time and it was something fun that Jett & Reid could do together. Hopefully next year we'll be able to do these swimming lessons again!
