Wee Ball: And That's a Wrap!

.....
This week Reid had his last Wee Ball game of the season. He was excited about playing with "my team" all day long and he couldn't wait to get his hands on that trophy that we had promised him since he started. He plays Mario Kart on the Wii with Jeb and when he wins he gets a "trophy," so he's always thought that having a real trophy would be super cool! We really missed cousin Jett, who was on vacation in Florida, but I have to say that Reid played much better without his wrestling buddy! The boys have a lot of fun together, but Reid's attention span is still so short that most games are spent tackling Jett out in the field. Reid is definitely his mother's child. He absolutely LOVED all of the attention he was getting at this game. He had quite the section of fans, including me, his Papa Kelbo, his Papa Jeff, Gam-Ma Missy & Melvin, as well as Mimi & Papa Cook. He was really soaking up all of the cheering! He would smile a big smile when he got up to bat and we would all say, "go Reid!" We would say, "way to go Reid" and "good job Reid" and he would clap and wave his arms up high, skipping back to the dugout and waving to of us after he came across home plate.

Sissy was there to cheer him on too! We always have such a hard time keeping her off the field. She's so fast that sometimes it's exhausting trying to catch her! She loves the ball field, but it's quite the job trying to keep her from eating dirt, sunflower seeds, and bits of trash off the ground or under the bleachers!

Pre-game warm-up...notice Reid is walking towards all of the girls! He is such a little lady's man!

Taking grounders before the game - He actually paid attention and stood in line this time!

And he gets it! Layla is behind him making sure he does everything he's supposed to do! The girls on the team seem to pay attention a little better and take the game a little more serious than the boys do.

How cute is he out in the field?

This is what she does at the ball field...play in the dirt!

Hey batter, batter!

.....
The following couple of pictures are from last week's game. Reid's first hit wasn't very good and I had recorded it, so I decided to take pictures of his next at bat instead of videoing. I really regret this decision because this was Reid's best hit of the season! The ball was a line drive all the way into the outfield! He was so excited that he danced to first base! I SO wish I would've decided to video this time! At least I have pictures of his victory dance! When he got on first base he looked at me and said, "mommy, I hit it tar (far) tar (far), all the way to the sky!"

He played extra hard his last game of the season and he was so sweaty and dirty! He would try to slide into the bases and when he was out in the field he would run after the ball and then roll around in the dirt.
.....
.....
He gets a little upset when he doesn't get the ball. There have even been a few times that he's gotten in trouble for trying to take the ball away from whoever got it.
.....
Perfect little throw!
.....
His little face gets so red...just like his daddy's used to get! I remember in high school after football games how red Jeb's face would be. His hair was so blond and his face was so red!

Pretty good technique for 3 years old!

Typical wee ball...

This is an example of Reid trying to take the ball from one of the girls who fielded it.

He couldn't wait for this moment. He stood in line on the baseline so perfectly until they called his name.

I love this one!

He had a mouth full of Cheetos when he took his picture with Gam-Ma Missy. I told him to take a picture with Missy and he said, "but mom, I have to get my Cheetos first!"

We had such a great Wee Ball experience. At first I wasn't sure how it was going to go since Reid was just two and his attention span was so short. Plus, he still doesn't quite understand the concept of sharing or letting someone else get the ball. But with every game and every practice, he seemed to mature a little bit more and pay a little bit more attention. Since Reid was tiny, baseball has always been his favorite thing. He has great hand-eye coordination and has been hitting the ball when it is thrown to him since he was 18 months old. If he continues to have this love for the game, we'll definitely be playing tee ball next year and I'll definitely be "that mom" again. But as someone commented on Facebook, I was born to be "that mom."
