…..
This month you are really starting to act like more of an infant instead of a newborn. Even though this makes mommy really sad, I know that you can't stay a tiny newborn forever. Tonight (7.28.14) you reached for me for the very first time…and my heart melted. Daddy was holding you in the kitchen and you held your arms out for me to get you. I feel like I have had such a special bond with you since the second you were born. I think that you've said "mama" a couple of times, but no one seems to believe me. I was telling daddy that I think you say it when you're fussy and wanting to nurse. He didn't believe me at first, but a couple of nights ago when we were lying in bed, you said it in front of daddy too! It may just be baby talk, but it sounds exactly like "mama!"Rushton Jeb, you complete our little (kind of big now!) family. My very favorite thing to do is rock you to sleep (or lie down and nurse you) and read the poem "Wynken, Blynken, & Nod." I have the poem memorized now. Here's a copy of it.

Wynken, Blynken, and Nod (Dutch Lullaby)
Eugene Field
Wynken, Blynken, and Nod one night
Sailed off in a wooden shoe---
Sailed on a river of crystal light,
Into a sea of dew.
"Where are you going, and what do you wish?"
The old moon asked the three.
"We have come to fish for the herring fish
That live in this beautiful sea;
Nets of silver and gold have we!"
Said Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.
The old moon laughed and sang a song,
As they rocked in the wooden shoe,
And the wind that sped them all night long
Ruffled the waves of dew.
The little stars were the herring fish
That lived in that beautiful sea---
"Now cast your nets wherever you wish---
Never afeard are we";
So cried the stars to the fishermen three:
Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.
All night long their nets they threw
To the stars in the twinkling foam---
Then down from the skies came the wooden shoe,
Bringing the fishermen home;
'T was all so pretty a sail it seemed
As if it could not be,
And some folks thought 't was a dream they 'd dreamed
Of sailing that beautiful sea---
But I shall name you the fishermen three:
Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.
Wynken and Blynken are two little eyes,
And Nod is a little head,
And the wooden shoe that sailed the skies
Is a wee one's trundle-bed.
So shut your eyes while mother sings
Of wonderful sights that be,
And you shall see the beautiful things
As you rock in the misty sea,
Where the old shoe rocked the fishermen three:
Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.

This is his position most of the time at 4 months old…feet pulled up and trying to put everything into his mouth.

You're still sleeping with mommy and daddy. You go to bed around 9:30, and I usually put you in your co-sleeper beside our bed. You wake about every 4-5 hours to nurse and I end up putting you in between daddy and I. Since it's summer, we usually sleep in until about 9:30 or 10 every morning…unless bubba or sissy wake us up sooner! After waking up, you usually play for a couple of hours and the are ready for a nap around 11:30 or 12. We don't have a very consistent schedule because we're always on the go, but you're such a laid back baby that you just go with the flow! You're such a good baby…so calm and chill…today you sat in your carrier almost the entire two hours while I got my mani/pedi. You were completely content watching me while I talked to you and playing with your toys.
Eating…yep, you LOVE to eat! You're still breastfeeding like a champ, however, you've moved down on the growth chart to the 50 percentile in weight. I think this is due to you starting to army crawl, rock, and kick so much. You are always on the move! Also, you get your very first cold about a week and a half ago and you weren't eating as much. Your nose with stopped up and you were sneezing, so it was difficult for you to nurse. Your poor little eyes were watery and had circles around them. Your left ear was pretty red, but since you were only running a low-grade temp. I chose to take you to the chiropractor and not start antibiotics. I diffused some essential oils, and thankfully after a couple of days you were so much better! Mommy got the cold too…we were both coughing! It definitely was a pretty bad one because this was the first time that I've ever gotten an earache!
You've really started becoming interested in things these past couple of weeks. You're grabbing for everything and love to sit in our lap and reach for things on the table when we eat dinner. You're showing a lot of interest in food, and you really watch us when we put things into our mouths!
