Letter to My Birthday Boy: 10 Years Old

Reid Jackson,

Ten. Double digits. It’s been an entire decade since you can into this world...early, upside down, and with your legs up by your head. You’ve been high maintenance since the day you were born...kinda like your mama! It seems so long ago, yet at the same time it seems like yesterday. Loving you and raising you for the past ten years has been one of the best and most challenging things that I’ve ever done. You’re so much like me, that there are days that you give me a run for my money, but I love the intensity and spirit in your personality!
.....
.....
.....
You’re my little water boy...you love the beach, the lake, and any pond or river. You love to fish and be outdoors. You’re all boy and love to be rough and rowdy...your daddy loves this about you! You’re also an excellent student...super smart with straight As (even though you don’t like to read) and you show great leadership skills at school and during sports!
.....
.....
You’re also our little sea food lover! You love sushi with crab and avocado, tuna, salmon, and lobster! You’re the best eater of all of my kids, and you’d choose broccoli or an apple over sweets or candy any day!
.....
.....
You’re definitely your daddy’s boy, and the bond you two share is extremely special. Your daddy thinks you hung the moon and you think the same of him.
.....
.....
I’m so proud to be your mama, and I can’t believe you’re growing up so fast. In terms of you living at home, we’ve now had you longer than the time we have left...and this makes me really sad. Although I get really teary thinking about you growing up, I love the young man you’re becoming and I’m excited to watch you grow! I know God has big plans for you, and I pray you continue to turn to Him for direction, comfort, and strength.
.....
.....
And no matter how big you get, remember...you’ll always be my first baby.

The verse that I’m praying over you for the year is your life verse. We bought a big print of it and hung it above your bed this year.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid of discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9

All of my love,
Mom
