first grade awards. {Reid}

…..
I'm about a month late on this post, but I wanted to write a little about Reid's 1st grade year! He was a little unsure about his class at the start of the year because he didn't have any of his buddies in his class, but Miss Dye was an amazing teacher and he ended up really enjoying the year. He even made several new friends, and seemed to thrive being one of the oldest (if not the oldest) kids in his class. He completed all of his reading goals, and was awarded more AR certificates than anyone else in his class…which makes me feel stupid for worrying about if he was going to ever learn to read! He made Math Masters Club after just a couple of months of school, and was the class Spelling Bee champ - making it all the way to the Grove School Spelling Bee (following in his man's footsteps)!
…..
Not only did he excel in academics, he achieved big things in the area of athletics as well! Reid received the National Presidential Physical Fitness Award, and was also chosen as the only first grade boy to go to the Kiwanis Little Olympics and represent Grove School in the mascot race. He received second place out of about seven schools, and we were extremely proud of him!
….
This was Miss Dye's first year of teaching, and we could not have asked for a better experience for Reid's 1st grade year.
…..
Reid and Aspyn - they are such good friends, but they like to act like they aren't!

Papa Kelbo with his boys!
…..
We couldn't do it without Nana and Papa and all of their support. It really does take a village!

…..
Berkeley is the sweetest thing, and is always wanting to take her picture with Reid!
…..
He received the "Responsibility" award, which made this mama super proud!

A competitive, driven, hard-working, perfectionist, analytical, empathetic, athletic, and artistic boy…that's our Reid Jackson!

We are so proud of you, Reid Jackson, and we hope you continue to always strive for excellence. Although your fierce spirit and intense energy can be a little much at times, we hope you always keep your passion and desire to hustle, work hard, and do your very best. We love you so much.

daughter of the King.

I'm a little emotional tonight, and tears roll down my cheeks as I think about how undeserving I am of this precious soul. As I stare at this picture, a familiar quote comes to my mind. I see a little girl who needs me to fill up her self-esteem bucket so high that the world will never be able to poke enough holes in it to drain it dry. I see a little girl who needs a mama who prays…a mama who prays fervently for the Lord to guide her words and her way as she raises a daughter of the King.
She's so different than me…which is the most wonderful thing and the most frustrating thing, all at the same time. A lot of the times I feel like I'm not saying the right things to her, or that I'm too quick to criticize. Being a mom is tough. And when life gets busy, you go to bed sometimes wondering if you held them enough, laughed with them enough, played with them enough, or prayed with them enough. And sometimes you're just so tired that you don't even think at all. But in the end, as long you're covering them in prayers and leading them towards the light of Jesus…I think the rest will just work itself out.
