Farmo!

Reid has been taking an art class the last month from 'Paint with LeAnne' and yesterday was his very first art show! LeAnne is a local artist who does weekly art classes for kids at her downtown studio. She does a new session every month with a new theme and art technique. Reid was the youngest in his class of 4-6 year olds...actually he was the only 4 year old in his class. At first I was a little nervous about this because he was very shy at the first two classes and wouldn't talk much, but by the last class he had really opened up and was starting to enjoy the class!
.....
The art show was at a local coffee shop downtown. LeAnne told me that it is a tradition to let the kids pick their own outfits out of their closet to wear to the show, as this lets them express their creativity. What did Reid Jackson pick out? Something "sporty," of course! It was all I could do not to throw a pair of khaki shorts and a Polo on him!
.....
Trying to get a decent pic of the two of them is near impossible these days! If one is in a picture-taking mood, then the other is not.
.....
This is Lil's new pose...one hand on her hip and the other hand up. She says, "Watch mom! Take my picture!"
.....
Meet Farmo the Cow! This session the kids studied Eric Carle's artistic technique. He is the artist and illustrator of the children's books 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and 'The Very Busy Spider.' The kids had to develop a character and then tell a story about the character that they drew. Reid created a cow named "Farmo."
His story says this:
Farmo was in a plane. Then he saw a door. He jumped out. He fell. He learned how to fly before he hit the ground. The End.
I think he did a great job "signing" his name!
.....
How cute is Farmo? They first had to sketch their character on a sheet of paper. Next, they painted three sheets of paper, three different colors that they picked out and put "texture" on the paper by using toothpicks and spaghetti noodles to "draw" on the wet paint. After that they cut out the different body parts of their characters from the painted paper and pieced it together.
.....
I think he did a great job for a "just turned" four year-old!

This is Reid getting his art award from Ms. LeAnne.

She hand painted washers for each student and put them on a string for a necklace. Reid is so proud of his necklace! He wore it for two days!

Sissy was being ornery, as usual, during the art show!

I am SO very proud of my little artist!

Reid loved art class and I think it was great for him to be exposed to the arts. One of my main goals as a mother is to help my children become cultured and well-rounded. I want them to travel, explore, create, learn, and experience the world around them in as many ways as they can! I hope Reid will continue to stay interested in learning about all forms of art. It is good for the creative side of his brain! Hopefully we can do some private art sessions and painting in the fall with Ms. LeAnne!
